Hi, I’m Timothy.
I specialise in the design of useful software to help individuals and businesses make good decisions, and take effective action, in a rapidly changing world.
I aim to deepen our shared understanding of the people and systems around us, uncovering new ways to make lasting improvements to processes, products, services, and our communities…
…so we can grow and thrive together, no matter what challenges we face in the future.
You’ll love working with me — here’s why
I can get to the heart of a design problem quickly, and explain it so that stakeholders can understand. I can readily come up with more than one way of achieving a good solution, and then communicate and document it so that we can all agree on what we’re working towards.
I like working at the whiteboard for speedy scamps, and use lightweight tools (like Figma) to create prototypes to validate ideas early.
I step back to see the big picture
While working on the details I keep the big picture in mind. I’m always looking to see the essence of what I’m working on and discover patterns and connections with other projects.
My ten years background in the university environment has given me a passion for qualitative research and research-informed practice. I try to keep up to date on current UX thinking – drawing on the insights and experience of others to gain a clear perspective. I’m an expert at user research.
I keep the vision in focus
I’ve worked across diverse teams with multi-channel components that needed to work in harmony. As the person who frequently touches the product experience over the longest period – from concept right through to execution – I’ve needed to become an expert at keeping sight of what each touchpoint needs to do to fulfil the overall experience goals.
I can take the lead on strategy when required, but I’m also happy following along – keeping in time with someone else’s vision.
I put people first
Whether it is those I’m designing for or those I work with, I strive to put people first in everything I do. I have a strong curiosity about people: their everyday lives, their needs, and the environments they inhabit.
Understanding and caring about other people helps designers like me create richer experiences. This empathy also helps me work well in collaborative teams.
I’m enthusiastic and determined
I love this work and it’s taken me a while to find where I belong. Now that I’m here, I don’t hold back. I don’t give up, and I always keep trying to make the work the very best it can be – whether the job is big or small.
