Now you're reading: Transmedia for libraries?’ —

August 12th, 2010 /

Of course The Matrix, Lost, and Doctor Who are EXACTLY THE SAME as Brooklyn Museum and Nottingham City Museums and Galleries! This week I’ve just given a lecture that brazenly linked ideas I’ve been thinking about for ages concerning Transmedia Storytelling with Libraries and Museums.

TV and Movies, Erik Boekesteijn from the Delft Public Library, Cats and Rabbits, Transmedia Storytelling, Natalie Tran, Henry Jenkins… just a few of my favourite topics, all smooshed into a two-hour lecture mashup.

Next week, I’ll be talking about Social Network sites specifically. It should be quite fun, especially as I’m going to use it as an excuse to play many videos of incredibly handsome men.

  1. Simon Chamberlain says:

Hey, any chance that you’ll be putting notes, slides, summaries or anything else online? Sounds quite fascinating. Would be interested to hear what you’re saying about social networks as well, tho’ I suspect I probably have a beter grasp on that than on the transmedia stuff…

  2. Timothy Greig says:

Sure thing Simon – I can probably do that over the next month or so. It’s a google docs presentation, so it’s easy to share, and I’d been thinking about annotating it (and making sure I correctly reference all the CC images I used). I just have to find some spare time to write it up.

The Social Networking presentation was less spectacular – as it’s based on really recent disucssion and ideas from the last few months, (e.g. Oldspice Guy and @Spokesbird) rather than stuff I’ve been thinking about for years.

The best thing I’ve seen on social networks at the moment is definitely that “Real Life Social Network” presentation by Paul Adams. I referred to that several times in class.
