The edge of the world.

I'm really passionate about...

People-focused curation

I believe that the unique stories and perspectives of individuals are worth recording and sharing. I seek to put people in touch with information that is meaningful to them - particularly in a way that helps them to form connections with others and see the world in a new, exciting way.

Playful storytelling

Storytelling is a essential tool for making sense of our world. I am interested in playful environments as sites of creativity, risk taking, exploration and learning. Creating interactive narrative worlds - whether fiction or non-fiction - is an exciting challenge, particularly as we explore new ways to collaborate in real time with creative, participatory audiences.

Big-picture understanding

Ten years in the university environment has given me a strong passion for qualitative research methods and research-informed practice. I'm always looking to see the big picture of whatever I'm working on to seek patterns and connections to other projects.

Marking with a progress bar.

Marking with a progress bar.

Makes the work feel like it is really flying by! Tuesday’s boxes are lined up, ready to go. Each time I finish marking a paper I record how many hours it took me to mark (my aim is for 1.5 each) and colour in the box. It is rather satisfying.

Lecture Brainstorming. Two classes.

Working titles for the two classes… I’m thinking:
Week 5: “Social Media, Transmedia, & Keeping Up”
Week 6: “Social Networking & Fingerspitzengefühl”
Must remember to update my cute cat picture collection for this round of classes. (Submissions welcome. Crowd-sourced-cats?)

Checking in at National Library.

Checking in at National Library.

When you visit the National Library of New Zealand, you have to “check in” at a kiosk. It sends an automated message to the person you’ve come to see, to notify them to come get you.

You can enter information about whether you’ll require assistance getting out of the building in an emergency. Also, if you’re a repeat visitor, the system will remember who you are!

Field notes for webstock!

Field notes for webstock!

I can’t wait to get to webstock tomorrow, just so I can use these awesome Field Notes journals that @spanishmanners gave me! I’ve been saving them. <3

The other exciting thing about Webstock is that Collective Noun will be running a game during both days of the conference, designed to encourage people to interact, explore, and reflect.

In fact, this post just happens to fulfill the requirements of one of the game quests, #48 Field Notes: “How are you recording your thoughts during the conference? Post a photo of your notetaking equipment”.

Story Inc.

While visiting Josh & Ponoko I discovered this really cool experience design company have their offices in the same building. They created the amazing Golden Days “object theatre” at Te Papa!
