Libraries and knowledge management, information architecture and interaction design, video game theory and development, life in general: this site is an access point to my personal writing, some project work, and personal ideas and opinion surrounding these general themes.

Librarianship.

I’m a recently qualified professional librarian, currently working at Victoria University of Wellington’s Architecture and Design Library.

  • In this role I assume responsibility for the branch’s web and intranet presence and contributions, and also maintain and develop our local documentation and record management systems. 
  • I contribute professional support to the library manager and her deputy, particularly with regard to collection development & policy.
  • I also assist them in developing library orientation and instruction sessions as required; I’ve put together a number of great lectures on library services and research skills for a range of different audiences from Academic staff to first year students.
  • I’m well known for my experience and interest in areas of emerging technology, and contribute these  to further wider university library strategic directions.
I have a Masters in Library and Information Studies from the School of Information Management at Victoria. The focus of my electives were on electronic publishing, 

Selected Projects

Information Architecture.

Over the past few years I’ve developed a strong interest in information architecture and design issues for creating successful online information spaces. This grew out of previous work experience at the Christchurch College of Education working on the StudentNet Learning Management System as a Web Designer and Administrator, but also as a result of continuing to work supporting an academic department (Digital Media Design) that is frequently concerned with design for digital and virtual spaces.

Over the third university trimester of 2007/8, I built on this interest in Information Architecture by taking on an additional paper (beyond the requirements of my Masters degree) in Web and Intranet Content Management. This helped me understand, and practice producing, some of the formal documents needed for
