13 October, 2006 SMIGL.

Singapore’s Media Development Authority & Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have announced collaboration to form an International Games Research Lab! Just wait till you hear who’s going to lead it! Henry Jenkins! (oh, and William Uricchio - but he’s not nearly as cool)

There’s going to be a heavy emphasis on innovation. They’re calling it the “Singapore & MIT International Games Lab” (SMIGL). To which the internet replies: “Gollum, Gollum, yesss my precious!”

The press release has some awesome quotes, such as this one from Henry:

The SMIGL collaboration will provide a strong catalyst for innovation by bringing together students, industry leaders and faculty from very different cultures and backgrounds to work together and to conduct research that could have a great impact on the international game industry,

I’ll certainly be staying tuned to Dr. Jenkin’s blog. I want to know more. In particular: Will SMIGL need a librarian?
